Daily Living

What can you do to conserve and protect wildlife and their habitats? Habitat is a combination of food, water, shelter and space in a suitable arrangement to meet the needs of wildlife. If you plant native trees and shrubs that provide natural shelter and food for birds and butterflies, you are practicing conservation where you live. You can manage ponds for high fish production while also providing habitat for wading birds, waterfowl, otters and other wildlife. Identify and remove invasive nonnative plants before they crowd out the natives. And think twice about buying exotic snakes, lizards and other nonnative pets that have the potential to escape then reproduce and spread in precious, natural Florida.
