BAIT or LURES:  Bait or lures are used to attract the fish to bite your hook.  They do this by being something good for fish to eat like  live baits, for example earthworms, crickets, or shrimp, or natural baits like cheese balls, chicken necks, or pieces  of hot dogs.  Artificial  baits or lures like plastic worms, spinner baits etc. look like something good to eat, or occasionally just make such a racket that they pester the fish into striking.   The size of the bait or lure must be small enough to fit in the mouth of the fish you are trying to catch and big enough that it is worth their time trying to get it.
