HERB ALLENHerb Allen of Dunedin, Florida, is a contributing editor to Florida Sportsman and Gulf Coast Fisherman magazines. He has appeared in every issue of Florida Sportsman since the publication's inception in 1969. He has also been a contributing editor of the Gulf Coast Fisherman for more than two decades. He remains an extremely prolific and widely published outdoor writer. He writes a weekly syndicated column, called "Hook, Lyin' & Sinker," about the outdoors that goes to 28 outlets with a combined circulation of about one million. During the past 30 or so years, Allen has generated thousands of newspaper and magazine columns, newspaper stories, and magazine features, as well as three books. He was the former outdoors editor of the Tampa Tribune, where he wrote six columns per week and a full page on Sundays for 20 years. Amazingly, he was voted Florida's best outdoors columnist by the Florida Outdoor Writer's Association for nine years running. Allen was elected in 1969 to the International Fishing Hall of Fame, and was Sears, Roebuck & Company's 1982 Florida Outdoorsman of the Year. In all, he has received nearly 100 major state, regional, national and international awards for his writing and conservation efforts. We sincerely appreciate his willingness to have written a monthly update column for us for several years and to allow us to publish it on the World Wide Web.
