Outdoor Skills

Skeet shooting at BOW

Children and adults who spend time outdoors hiking, birding, fishing, boating or hunting learn to appreciate and become better stewards of our environment. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission offers classes and other resources that teach both children and adults the skills they need to create a lifetime of cherished memories.

Florida Hunter Safety and Bowhunter Education Courses, both traditional and Internet-based, cover the knowledge, skills and attitude needed to be a safe hunter.

The Youth Hunting Program of Florida offers youth hunts that are safe, educational and affordable.

Becoming an Outdoor Woman (BOW) teaches adult women hands-on outdoor skills, from hunting and fishing to canoeing and camping, in a safe, supportive atmosphere.

"Ladies Let's Go Fishing!" and Kid's Fishing Clinics, which attract thousands of participants and volunteers each year, teach fishing skills - casting, tying knots and rigging baits - as well as conservation ethics.

Check out the Wings Over Florida, a free awards program that encourages Florida birders to sharpen their skills by identifying as many birds as they can within the state. The Junior Birder Program provides resources and encouragement for young birders.

From Atlantic bottlenose dolphin leaping beside your boat to swallow-tailed kites soaring in the summer sky, our state is rich with Wildlife Viewing opportunities. Learn more about Florida's unique wildlife and the best places to see them around the state.
