FWC adopts rules governing marine turtle permits April 11, 2007 Contact: Beth Scott (850) 488-4676 The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission approved marine turtle permitting rules Wednesday, establishing permitting requirements, the application process, special permitting, and suspensions and revocations. Commission members approved the four-part rule outlining when permits are required and when permits cannot be granted. The rule also establishes special conditions under which marine turtle permits are granted for captive or research purposes. The rule establishes training and reporting requirements for permit holders and requirements for renewal. Specific guidelines are being established for each level of approval needed for requested activities based on the impact of the studies on turtles, nests and hatchlings. New rules also provide for suspending or revoking marine turtle permits if non-compliance occurs. |
