Chinsegut Nature Center announces new volunteer orientation August 27, 2008 Contact: Becky Brown, 352-754-6722 If you have a passion for Florida's wildlife, Chinsegut Nature Center has just the opportunity for you. Located in northern Hernando County, Chinsegut Nature Center is recruiting volunteers on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at its new-volunteer orientation. The orientation is for both the occasional volunteers, who may be available only on weekends, and for those who find their schedule is flexible during the week. In 2007 alone, Chinsegut Nature Center served more than 5,400 visitors in public programs and wildlife-viewing opportunities. "As the center grows, we increasingly depend on volunteer involvement to deliver educational programs to adults, school children and various community groups," said Kristin Wood, Chinsegut Nature Center director. In addition to presenting educational programs, volunteers help staff the nature center on weekends, assist with annual events and festivals, conduct wildlife surveys, maintain an extensive trail system and control nonnative plants. A new butterfly garden will be complete in September, and gardeners will be needed to maintain the garden. "Volunteers are the backbone of a strong, committed team who know the importance of wildlife and habitat management," said Becky Brown, volunteer coordinator at Chinsegut. "Without their unending support, our programs and land-management practices would not be possible." Snacks and beverages will be provided at the orientation. Participants should bring their own lunch and water bottle. Contact Becky Brown at 352-754-6722 or Rebecca.Brown@MyFWC.com for more information or to RSVP. Chinsegut Nature Center is at 23212 Lake Lindsey Rd. in Brooksville. It is open to the public on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for scheduled public programs and by appointment.
