FWC moves ahead with Palm Beach County boating speed zone development

September 10, 2009
Contact: Major Paul Ouellette, 850-410-0656, Ext. 17153

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) directed its staff on Thursday to continue working with stakeholders to fine-tune improvements to Palm Beach County boating speed zones. FWC staff will proceed with developing draft rule amendments for consideration at the agency's December meeting in Clewiston and consideration for final approval at a future meeting, possibly in early 2010.

The amendments will correct and update locations of boating safety speed zones along the Florida Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, based on findings of the Palm Beach Vessel Traffic Study. They also clarify rule language to improve consistency.

Also, the amendments repeal unnecessary speed zones and address requests for revisions from stakeholders and governmental entities.
