Posted May 18, 2010: The Florida Forest Service will be re-offering the Southern Pine Beetle Prevention Cost-Share Program for non-industrial private forest landowners in 2010 for the following practices: first pulpwood thinning, pre-commercial thinning, prescribed burning, mechanical under brushing, and longleaf restoration. Applications will be accepted during a sign-up period running May 20 - July 1, 2010. Program information and application materials are available on the  Florida Forest Service Website. Hardcopies of application materials are available at DOF County Forester offices.

Posted January 15, 2010:  New tax incentives for land in conservation
Florida House Bill 7157 went into effect on January 1, 2010 under 196.26, Florida Statutes.  This law provides "property tax exemption" for real property dedicated in perpetuity for conservation purposes (Form DR-418C) and a "property tax assessment" of land used for conservation (Form DR-482C).   Landowners who meet the criteria and wish to apply for this exemption or assessment would need to submit the proper application and all supporting documents before MARCH 1st of each year.  The applications are located on the Department of Revenue website under the "Ad Valorem Tax" subheading.
