Overview | Family Camp Registration icon_PDF.gif

Due to the success of our summer Fish Camp program and the overwhelming desire for family-based programming, we have created a new Family Fish Camp.  Family Fish Camp will be a twenty hour fishing instructional program aimed at families who have the desire to fish but do not have the knowledge, skills or equipment to make fishing trips a reality.  Family Fish Camp will provide valuable information regarding fish and their habitat, teach various fishing techniques, and cultivate a new crop of responsible anglers.

Campers are provided with all gear necessary for fishing.  Each participant will receive a Zebco 33 rod and reel, and each parent/child group will be given a tackle box full of tackle.   At the close of Camp, campers take their fishing equipment home to use for future fishing.  Our goal is to have participants leave camp equipped to be successful anglers.

Family Fish Camp will take place at the Joe Budd Aquatic Education Center Center in Midway on May 19 - 20.  Saturday will be all about fishing. Topics will include tackle assembly and use, knot tying, casting, and angling techniques. While most of the day will be spent fishing, you will learn valuable information about fish identification, fish feeding preferences, tackle selection, fish handling, and fish cleaning. Sunday morning will be dedicated to boating.  Boating safety, oaring, trolling motor operation and boat fishing techniques will be covered.  Since eating the fish you catch is often a goal of fishing, Sunday lunch will be a fish fry prepared by our adult participants.  Boat and bank fishing will be the main activity for Sunday afternoon.
