A Spring Turkey Quota Permit is a type of limited entry permit that is required in order to participate in some spring turkey hunts on select Management Areas. Click Application Worksheet at the bottom of the page for specific Management Areas and hunt dates.
- Requirements: Unless exempt, you must have a valid Management Area Permit in order to apply. Children age 15 that will turn 16 before or during the hunts should purchase a Management Area Permit and apply as a non-exempt hunter.
- Issuance Method: These permits are issued by random drawing during Phases I and II. Leftover permits are issued on a first come first served basis during Phase III.
- Exemptions: Some hunts allow exempt hunters to participate without having a permit - these are called "exempt hunts." Exempt hunts are not in bold print on the Application Worksheet (see below). If you are an exempt hunter and apply for an exempt hunt (either by accident, or as a group member), you will not be issued a permit. Hunts in BOLD print do not allow exempt hunters access without a quota permit, unless they are the guest of a permit holder.
- Restrictions: You may submit one Application Worksheet and receive up to one permit in Phase I or II. You may receive up to five permits total in Phase III (including any permits awarded in Phase I or II). You can only apply in Phase II if you have not already been awarded a permit during Phase I. You can have no more than one permit per hunt unit, and no more than five permits total. The selling or purchasing of any quota permit is prohibited.
- Groups: During Phase I only, you and up to four other hunters can choose to apply as a group. To apply as a group, one person must first apply as group leader and indicate they are creating a group. They will enter the hunt choices for the group, and be issued a group number at the end of the transaction (prints on receipt). The group leader must then provide that group number to the group members. Group members will then need to submit their own applications but indicate they are joining a group and input the group number. The group's rank in the random drawing will be determined by the member with the lowest number of preference points among the members.
- Preference Points: If you apply during Phase I and are NOT drawn for a permit, you will be awarded one preference point for next year (even if you get a permit in Phase II or III). If you apply during Phase I next year, and are drawn for a permit, your preference points will be reset to zero. If you apply during Phase I next year, and are NOT drawn for a permit, you will be awarded one preference point for a total of 2. If you do not apply during Phase I next year, your preference point total will remain 1. If you fail to apply during Phase I for 2 consecutive years, you're preference points will be reset to zero.
- Transferability: These permits are NOT transferable (except for Holton Creek). Holton Creek permits are transferable only to another mobility impaired hunter.
- Returned Permits: If you are unable to use your permit you can return it for re-issuance. Click here for information on returning permits for reissuance.
- Replacements: You can replace lost or destroyed non-transferable permits at a license agent or tax collector office for about $2. Spring Turkey Quota Permits for Holton Creek can only be replaced by FWC's Office of Licensing and Permitting.
- How to Apply: You can apply online (choose "Limited Entry/Quota Permits and Applications") or complete the Application Worksheet (click Application Worksheet button at bottom of page) and present it to any license agent or tax collector office.
- How to Get Your Permit: If successful in the Phase I or II random drawings, you will need to pick up your permit online (choose "Limited Entry/Quota Permits and Applications"), at a license agent, or tax collector office. In any phase, if you choose to pick up your permit online, be sure you have access to a printer so that you can print your permit directly from the website. View our Print Your Permit page for instructions and frequently asked questions on how to print your permit directly from the website.
