Snook harvest is still prohibited

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reminds anglers that the harvest season for snook in Gulf of Mexico, Everglades National Park and Monroe County waters, which usually begins on March 1, will not be open this year.

The recreational harvest season for spotted seatrout in North Florida reopens on March 1. This means all Florida waters will be open to the sport harvest of spotted seatrout beginning that day.  

Public hearing on Sarasota Co. manatee rule planned

February 25, 2010 

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will hold a public hearing on proposed changes to the manatee protection rule for Sarasota County. The hearing will be March 2 at 6 p.m. in the North County Administration Center's Board Chambers, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.

FWC Facts:
Blue crabs have specially modified back legs, called swimmerets, which rotate at 20-40 revolutions per minute, allowing the crab to quickly swim through the water.
