A Jacksonville man and his 4-year-old son were
injured Tuesday night when the boat the father was operating ran
into a dock at Pottsburg Creek.
Wayne Allen Lipscomb, 35, and his son, Ty Lipscomb,
were taken to Shands Hospital after their vessel ran into the dock.
The boy's mother, Amber Wehr Lipscomb, 33, and Jonathan D. Wehr,
26, (Amber's brother) were also aboard when the accident occurred
but were not injured.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office contacted the
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) at 7:26
p.m. Tuesday. Officers responded, and the injured man and boy were
taken to the hospital. Their injuries were serious but not
life-threatening.
The child was the only one wearing a life jacket,
according to FWC officers.
From the preliminary investigation, Lipscomb said
he had just left the ramp at Pottsburg Creek but decided it was too
dark to venture farther. He was returning to the boat ramp when he
ran into the dock near the ramp.
The vessel is a 17-foot, 1985 Astroglass, owned by
Lipscomb. Officers will retrieve the damaged boat from the dock
today.
The FWC is continuing the investigation.
