The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has scheduled a public workshop to receive comments on coming management changes for weakfish. There will be a discussion about results of the recent weakfish stock assessment by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) and proposed changes to Florida's weakfish management area.

The FWC has been working with staff from county, state and federal agencies as well as numerous volunteers on a mass rescue effort for sea turtles throughout the state.

The 2010 Florida Artificial Reef Summit will be held Jan. 21-23 next in Cocoa Beach. Florida Sea Grant, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension Service are co-organizing this important event, which occurs every three to five years and is intended to bring together stakeholders involved with artificial reef development, management and monitoring in Florida.

The workshop, which starts with registration at 8:15 a.m., focuses on prescribed fires; management of forests, ponds, wildlife habitat, wild turkey populations and invasive species; and Natural Resources Conservation Service Farm Bill programs.
