The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and NOAA Fisheries Service are keeping a close eye on the BP oil spill. So far the only impacts off Florida's coast have been in the form of fishing closures well offshore in federal waters where oil has been spotted. Fishing continues to be open in the vast majority of Gulf of Mexico waters.

The season for all harvest, possession and sale of stone crab claws in Florida closes on May 16. This closure occurs each year to help protect and sustain Florida's valuable stone crab resource.

It's that time of year when boaters are hitting the water in large numbers. They're sharing the water with officers of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). And the FWC is serious about busting boaters under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
