The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Osceola Shooting Range will be closed for maintenance on the berm from Jan. 25 through Jan. 27.

The Osceola Shooting Range is located off Forest Rd. 278 in the Osceola National Forest, near Lake City.

Seven public ranges operate throughout the state. They are federally funded by the Pittman-Robertson Act, which levies a tax on sporting arms and ammunition. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service distributes that tax revenue to the states for wildlife restoration, hunter safety training, range construction and maintenance.

Shooting ranges in the North Florida area, which are open for public use, are:

Ocala Public Shooting Range
Forest Road 88 (north of State Road 40) in the Ocala National Forest

Apalachicola Shooting Range
Forest Road 305, southwest of Tallahassee off Springhill Road in the Apalachicola National Forest

FWC Public Shooting Range
6850 Quintette Road

FWC Facts:
Green or brown algae and white barnacles contribute to the natural camouflage that thick, gray skin affords manatees in the water.
