Everglades-area WMAs open to public

The FWC). has rescinded executive orders that established special restrictions on portions of the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor and Holey Land Wildlife Management Areas. Rotenberger WMA will remain closed because of continued high-water levels. 

Construction to repair Hickory Mound Impoundment begins in January

December 21, 2017 

Beginning Jan. 2, 2018, public access will be temporarily closed on select roads and dikes of the Big Bend Wildlife Management Area’s Hickory Mound Unit due to construction to repair the Hickory Mound Impoundment area. 

Greater amberjack season set to reopen May 1 in Gulf state waters

December 21, 2017 

The greater amberjack recreational season in Gulf state waters will remain closed through April 30, and will reopen to harvest May 1-31 and Aug. 1-Oct. 31.

The crested caracara is a resident of the prairies and range lands of south-central Fla. This boldly patterned raptor has a crest, naked face, heavy bill and longish neck and legs.
