The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will have a special meeting at 2 p.m. EDT Friday, June 9, to discuss the Gulf red snapper season for private recreational anglers in state and federal waters.  

FWC seeks input on conserving Florida burrowing owls in urban landscapes

The FWC will hold open-house style public meetings in June to provide information and gather input on the agency’s development of Conservation Measures and Permitting Guidelines for the Florida burrowing owl.

The FWC Division of Marine Fisheries Management wants to hear from you. In an effort to keep stakeholders informed and to gather public input on upcoming issues, a new webpage has been created: MyFWC.com/SaltwaterComments.  

Workshops scheduled: FWC seeking public input on gag grouper season in 4-county Gulf region

FWC staff have received stakeholder requests for a longer season in this area, which is currently open yearly from April 1 through June 30.  

FWC discusses goliath grouper; Gulf red snapper, gray triggerfish and gag grouper

At its February meeting in Crystal River, the FWC discussed future management possibilities for goliath grouper, Gulf of Mexico red snapper, Gulf of Mexico gray triggerfish, and Gulf of Mexico gag grouper.  

FWC seeks public input on anchoring and mooring rules, pilot program

The FWC has posted a brief online survey to accept this feedback. It should take approximately five to 10 minutes to complete and will be available to the public Oct. 1-9.  

FWC to meet Sept. 8-9 in St. Augustine

The FWC will meet Sept. 8-9 at the World Golf Village Renaissance Resort, 500 S. Legacy Trail, St. Augustine. The meeting both days starts at 8:30 a.m. Both sessions are open to the public and the public will be provided opportunities to speak. 

Mutton snapper workshops scheduled for August

Mutton snapper is an important south Florida fishery. The 2015 stock assessment indicates that regulatory changes are needed for the fishery.FWC staff has been gathering public input on how to proceed with management of this fishery.  

FWC requests public input at Critical Wildlife Area workshops

The FWC is holding public workshops to share information about and solicit comments on the proposal to designate new Critical Wildlife Areas and modify five existing CWAs throughout the state.
