Bowhunting continues to be so popular in our state, accounting for more than 10 percent of all deer harvested, 15 percent of harvested does and 25 percent of the deer taken on wildlife management areas. Last year, more than 30,000 people bowhunted in Florida.

The FWC is working to improve Florida white-tailed deer management at a local level by establishing deer management units throughout the state, each with its own set of antler regulations and antlerless deer harvest days.

Dove Club permits enable one adult and one youth (age 15 or younger) to hunt all scheduled dates for the dove field of their choice.  

Summer best time to take a hunter safety class

Even if you were born before June 1, 1975, and are exempt from having to take the class, it’s still a good idea, because you’ll learn so much. The FWC encourages beginning hunters to do so. Even the most experienced hunter will learn something new, which will help him or her become an even better hunter – and a safer one. 

You can now apply for fall quota hunt permits from May 15 to June 15!

If you hunt public land, you should know that many of Florida’s wildlife management areas require a quota permit to hunt during archery, muzzleloading gun and all or part of the general gun season.

For adults, the highly anticipated spring turkey season first comes in south of S.R. 70 and runs March 7 – April 12. In the rest of the state (except for Holmes County), it runs March 21 – April 26. In Holmes County, the season runs March 21 – April 5. 

Deer huntin’ goes through March 1 in Zone D!

General gun season is open on private lands in zones B and D through Feb. 22. And then if you don’t mind hunting with a primitive weapon, Zone D’s late muzzleloading gun season runs a week longer until March 1.
