The TrophyCatch program clearly shows that submissions of bass heavier than 8 pounds, which are caught in Florida, documented and released, peaks each March. This is similar to other sunfishes, which are in the same family of fish as bass and include bream and crappie.

TrophyCatch approaches 3,000 trophy bass recycled as Season 4 begins

The FWC is proudly wrapping up Season 3 of TrophyCatch. Since inception of this innovative citizen-science, conservation rewards program in October 2012, nearly 3,000 trophy largemouth bass heavier than 8 pounds have been caught, documented and released in Florida. 

‘Pitch It’ to save fish and wildlife

The FWC is taking a leadership role by working with the American Sportfishing Association’s “Pitch It” campaign. This voluntary program encourages anglers across the country to dispose of their soft plastic lures properly as concerns about these lures accumulating in public waters are increasing.

FWC Facts:
Biologists estimate 10,000-14,000 sturgeon live in the Suwannee River. Adult populations in other Gulf Coast rivers range from a few hundred to about 2,000.
