Free Kids’ Fishing Clinic in Sarasota promises day of learning, fun

The FWC will offer a free Kids’ Fishing Clinic for children between the ages of 5 and 15 from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 18, at Ken Thompson Park, 1700 Ken Thompson Parkway. 

FWC conducts Lake Istokpoga plant treatment

October 16, 2017 

The FWC plans to conduct aquatic plant treatments via helicopter on Lake Istokpoga on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The treatment areas will include shallow water marshes on Bumblebee Island and Big Island.

Free family fishing day held at Suncoast Youth Conservation Center

FWC documents panther kittens north of Caloosahatchee River

March 27, 2017 

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has verified the presence of at least two panther kittens north of the Caloosahatchee River in southwest Florida. These kittens are presumed to be the offspring of the first wild female panther documented north of the river since 1973. 

Boca Grande Pass gear restriction boundary shifts

March 18, 2016 

Sands shift and when they do, sometimes, buoys must be moved and boundaries changed. That’s what happened recently in Boca Grande Pass. Recent changes to the buoys marking Boca Grande Pass will affect tarpon anglers and others fishing in the Pass during the months of April, May and June. 

Lake Istokpoga hydrilla and emergent plant treatments scheduled

December 01, 2015 

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will conduct aquatic plant control treatments via helicopter on portions of Lake Istokpoga during the first and second weeks of December, weather permitting. Plant species targeted for treatment are hydrilla, water primrose, cattail and pickerelweed.
