Youth and Family Hunting Opportunities
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission offers two deer hunts at Camp Blanding Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and two deer hunts at Andrews WMA. During these hunts, youths and their supervisors are the only hunters allowed on the area. About 600 youths apply every year for 160 deer quota permits. Quota permit worksheets are available at MyFWC.com in the Recreational Activities section on the Hunting page under the heading "Quota" and at an FWC regional office. Applications are accepted beginning in June.
Two youth waterfowl days annually held after the end of the regular waterfowl season. Specific dates are set in late September by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. For more information, obtain the migratory game bird regulations for waterfowl and coot seasons brochure (available in mid-October).
Six youth waterfowl hunts are held on the Stormwater Treatment Area (STA) Public Small-Game Hunting Areas. Permits are available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning in late August.
Youth small-game hunts are held at Caravelle Ranch, Ross Prairie and Jennings Forest WMAs. Quota permits are not required for these hunts.
Family hunts are offered at Matanzas, Allapattah Flats, Perdido River, Andrews, Devil's Hammock, Dinner Island Ranch and Lafayette WMAs. These hunts provide opportunities for permitted supervisors to hunt with up to two youths. Applications are accepted beginning in June.
Youth Hunting Program of Florida
The FWC and other conservation organizations have joined forces to offer youth hunts that are safe, educational and very affordable. The FWC sponsors introductory, instructive youth hunts for deer, turkey, hogs, waterfowl, small game and other species. Hunts include mentors, lodging and meals.
