Within an hour’s drive of Disney World is the Kissimmee Prairie,
one of the largest remaining expanses of dry prairie in the United States.
A significant portion of the Kissimmee Prairie has been preserved within
the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area. Named for the three lakes
that border the area (Lake Kissimmee, Lake Jackson, and Lake Marian),
Three Lakes offers ample opportunities for hunting, fishing, birding,
nature study, hiking, horseback riding, and biking. Fish for bluegill,
redear sunfish, black crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish, or hunt
for the famed Osceola turkey, wild-hog, or white-tailed deer. Hike along
the
Florida
National Scenic Trail and enjoy the colorful flush of wildflowers
in the spring and fall.
