Biologists use a variety of standardized survey and monitoring techniques
to determine trends of wildlife populations in response to land management
and other factors.
Endangered
Florida panthers are monitored through track and other sign
surveys, and through radio telemetry.
On
a number of WMAs, wild turkeys are surveyed through use of an
infrared-triggered camera. Biologists also learn about turkey
population trends by equipping some of the birds with radio
transmitters.
On
Arbuckle WMA, biologists check for presence of a variety of
frogs, toads, skinks and snakes using funnels, bucket traps, and
others in an annual monitoring project.
