Freshwater Fish Projects

FWC biologists conduct studies on a variety of fish species and systems. This set of articles focuses on many of the side projects currently being conducted in Florida's fresh waters.



Freshwater Commercial Fisheries

FWC monitors species that are commercially harvested from inland waters of the state, including catfish, tilapia, and American eel.

Water Quality and Contaminants

FWRI staff monitor changes in water quality and levels of contaminants, including mercury in fish, in Florida's fresh waters.



FWC Facts:
The average Florida manatee is about 10 ft. long and close to 1,200 lbs. They can reach up to 13 ft. and 3,500 lbs. Calves are 3-4 ft. long & weigh 60-70 lbs. at birth.
