Nancy Foster Research Expedition

Biologists with the FWC, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, NOAA's Beaufort Lab and Florida Atlantic University embarked on a two-week research mission aboard NOAA Ship Nancy Foster. During this mission, the team studied marine fish and their habitats in the waters off the Florida Keys.

Surveying Juvenile Fish Populations in the Florida Keys

Our researchers in the Florida Keys use several methods to conduct surveys on fish populations. One method is seining, which focuses on the juvenile stage of these fishes lives.

FWC Facts:
Biologists estimate 10,000-14,000 sturgeon live in the Suwannee River. Adult populations in other Gulf Coast rivers range from a few hundred to about 2,000.
