Researchers from FMRI set nets in Tampa Bay to capture turtles for tagging. In places like Florida Bay, the water is clear enough for researchers to sea a turtle and capture it by hand. Places with murkier waters like Tampa Bay require nets to capture turtles.

Pyrodinium bahamense, an HAB organism that blooms each summer in Tampa Bay and Indian River Lagoon, chemically lights up to glow in the dark. This is called bioluminescence.
