Red Porgy: Pagrus pagrus

Appearance:

  • Head and body color is pinkish-silver with several tiny blue spots
  • Yellow coloration around eye and snout
  • Only Florida porgy with a round rear nostril (not slit-like)
  • Head rounded, not projecting

Similar Species: Other porgy species (have slit-like rear nostrils) 

Size: Up to 36 inches 

Habitat:

Coastal waters over rocky or sandy bottoms.

Behavior:

Feed on fishes and invertebrates.
